But another bunker shot didn't get out and rolled back into the bunker, then another one back into the bunker, and then bladed over the bunker and into the pocket. I had some bad luck with the bunkers, one poor shot to the green ended up underneath the front lip and another ended up on top of the front edge of a bunker. They were especially hard for bent grass greens so that approach shots, especially pitches and chips, rolled out a lot. I found the greens large and challenging. The golf course had a lot of variety in the holes, a few forced carries over water and doglegs around the water. They also had a nice chipping, pitching, and bunker play practice green. The range was large with many targets and the practice was large and in very good shape. Our check-in was easy and the course was wide open so we played in less than 4 hours. The greens were generally large and in very good shape except where at the geese had been recently. The fairways were nice with a good Bermuda stand but sometimes the ball had to be moved a long way to find a dry spot. The tees were in pretty good shape especially for this time of year. In several places the cart paths were in rough shape due to the asphalt buckling. I think that is a good thing for both maintenance and pace of play. Very good bunkering to define where to hit the tee balls and several of the bunkers's have been grassed over. It had a lot of variety between the holes with dog legs both ways and short and long hauls. The layout was nice, with more elevation change then the courses I have been playing near the beach. Did not see a separate short game area with a bunker but I could have just missed it. The practice putting green was in good shape and the driving range was also nice. I used to really enjoy this course but I'm tired of the hassles that I get from the staff. We played on a wet day so the course was wide open and we played very quickly even though it was cart path only. I find better deals at other local courses that smile and really want my business. If you decide to walk to avoid the early cart turn in, be prepared for the Marshall to pull the flags in front of you before you finish play. The range will be closed early or maybe all day for some unknown reason at times. I've never been to a course so eager to rush you off. It seems like alot of the time the staff/marshalls are rushing so that they can get home I suppose. In fact 30 minutes or more before sundown. Problem with that is that they want the carts in very early. Lots of waiting so I choose to play afternoons. Pace can be an issue especially in the mornings. If you are a high handicapper you WILL probably hit houses out here. The fairways are pretty nice although in the fall the leaves are pretty bad. Some of the sand is hard and has shells in them. Honey Bee is in decent shape for the most part. We got there late so we were not able to use them however. There are two practice greens and a practice bunker by the driving range. They putted very true and fairly quickly given that they were wet. The greens were fairly nice except for ball marks and a few dead spots. Did not go in any bunkers (it's a miracle) so I can't speak to them but they were wet and one was flooded. We played in the rain in November so the course was pretty wet. So big hitters may not like it, but I thought it was great for me. It's not a long course as it plays to par 70 at just over 6000 yards from the tips. And some of the par fours and fives cross over water either from the tee or on the approach. The par threes over water have greens back from the water so they're forgiving (very good for me). There is lots of water on the course but for a mid-range handicapper it should not be in play. Rees Jones did a great job with the land he was given. This is a nice mid-range golf course south of the main beach.
